Say a prayer? January 15, 2007
Foolishness , trackbackFor my upcoming Monday, which is up and coming in about four hours, when I must awaken from the sleep that I have not yet fallen into and begin my day. I see now that the second cup of coffee at quarter to five this afternoon was clearly not my best idea ever, as the blessed angel of sleep must be scared away by the aura of caffeine I feel enveloping me. I’ve prayed for China, I’ve counted sheep, I’ve thought my most favorite thoughts and secret fantasies, I’ve signed into chat and wished good friends goodnight, and now everyone’s offline (which, come to think of it, makes me realize I don’t have enough friends in opposite hemispheres, who would be, at this moment, well-rested, chipper, and easily able to entertain me in my hour of need.) Still, sleep does not come to me.
Well, if nothing else this is a good lesson on what happens to Jules when she sleeps till ten a.m., drinks coffee at five p.m., and misses her get-out. This will also give me a renewed reason to praise the Lord for that blessed, streaming, fragrant elixir of life that (coupled with key power) will be the legs on which I will stand tomorrow. Now, I might say another prayer for China, perhaps count a few more sheep, or if that doesn’t work, I’ll wander about the house until I find one of our totally admirable resident parents, who is no doubt at this moment bouncing up and down the halls with babe-in-arms and wishing for some company.
