Stuff from Steph December 29, 2006

Stuff from Steph , 4 comments by Ruthie, Steph, Ang, and Woozers.

There’s a new category on this here blog, folks, and I hope you’re as excited as I am!

My older sister Steph, dedicated missionary on the field of South Africa, crazy loon and all around cool puppy, has been made an honorary member of this blog with a category all her own. Don’t expect her to be prolific, but do expect genius. I give you Steph!

Attack of the Spores

Yes, it’s that wonderful time of year when summer comes, bringing with it 80% humidity and a full-on greenhouse effect. One morning you wake up and you notice everything looks a slightly different color; even your shoes in the cupboard have changed. On closer inspection you realize that no, someone didn’t leave a green pair of sandals in your closet but your favorite pair of leather shoes have been attacked – attacked by the spores and are now covered in a soft fuzzy blanket of mold.

Mold is now our favorite subject seeing as our house has turned into one large and evolving science project. It makes for a great teaching aid, “Come kids, lets see how many types of mold we can identify then afterwards we can go mushroom picking!” You see mushrooms are now growing out of our stairs, quite the variety too, although no one has been tempted to eat them….yet.

Ahhh summer time! Don’t worry though, the entire country is not like this just where we live in a small pocket resembling the garden of Eden where the ground is always covered with dew, your laundry never really dries and if you’re the type who’s never been able to keep a plant alive…well drop by for a visit. All you have to do is leave whatever substance you wish to grow out for one day and by the next it will have started sprouting. Satisfaction guaranteed! If you do decide to visit we’ll advise you not to lean up against any walls because they act like sponges and will release water under even the slightest amount of pressure although we do provide umbrella’s on request.

Thankfully though, we are soon to leave our fungus farm for higher and hopefully drier ground. If not so fun at least living here has been educational in a creepy moldy kind of way.

I’m a gullible puppy, pretty much every salesperson’s and Nigerian scammer’s dream. As much as I’ve tried to jade myself, I still believe those beastly salespeople who tell me they’re giving me a “special deal” that’s “ending today”. I forward those kinds of emails around that claim Bill Gates is doing a promotion for IE and will send you a check for $25,000 for every person that you forward this email to extolling the virtues of IE.

I do these things just in case it might be true, and I only ever send them to my close friends who will forgive my stupidity and will still be my friend. So if you’ve never received one of these kinds of emails from me…….ah, never mind.

All that to say, I’m having a hard time figuring out if this
is really, well, real. Notice the first comment? Who is it from? And what does it link to?

I’m confused. I don’t know whether to be excited or skeptical. I’d rather be excited, but I thought I’d check around first to avoid any potential embarrassment.

So here’s what’s been crackin’.

A lot of cooking on my part, the results of which I’m sure you’ve already seen on Angel’s blog. I’ve spent three days out of last week in the kitchen and having lots of fun. The gastronomical effort doesn’t really fit in with the whole eccentric, reclusive genius thing that I manage to pull off so well most of the time, but hey, gotta break from the norm now and then; its healthy and we’re nothing if not new bottles right?

The Big Christmas Party is always lots of fun; its when our teamwork effort really shines and everyone is bonded through the fact that we all probably haven’t showered in the three days leading up to D-day (boy, if I’m the only one that did that, that’ll be really embarrasing). Everyone cleans up real well too, and I got into some pretty nifty witnessing which is always fun.

Dear family and friends, please consider the following your Christmas card. I’m sure you’ll like it just as well as if I’d photoshopped a pretty little border and wrote on the bottom something to the effect of “Wishing you and yours a marvelous, joyus Christmas filled with the wonder and magic of the season and the happiness and joy of family and friends during this enchanting and glorious time from all of us here”. You know I really do wish you all those things and more and that l love you!

Oh, and the second photo is for Linda P. You’re welcome :)

Foolishness , 6 comments by Joan, Anita, Liz, Steph, and Luca.

During this Yuletide season where all the creative energies that would have otherwise gone into this blog are currently being absorbed by the practice of doing my part to bring the true meaning of Christmas to the lost and lonely, I leave you with this gem to cherish.

Save this photo and pray, pray hard, for my little brother every time you see it. Please?

I’m too tired to try and be funny, I haven’t taken any good pictures lately, and I haven’t overheard any bloggable conversation snippits……so here’s a question while I wait for lightening to strike.

What quality would get more accomplished: extremely strong self-dicipline, or extremely strong motivation?
